The compelling drama opens in a nursing home where an elderly man named Duke (James Garner) regularly visits an invalid woman (Gena Rowlands) whom he reads a touching story of enduring love from a tattered old notebook. One day, while exploring the rambling old house, Caroline discovers a secret room at the back of the attic.
